The Mazda6 owes alot to the Millenia in terms of styling but it's no replacement. In Austrailia there's a Mazda3 coming out to replace the 323/Protoge. Perhaps this is how it will go.

323/Protoge = Mazda3
626/MX6 = Mazda6
969/Millenia = Mazda9?

the only way they are going to sale a Mazda 9 is with a V8, you start with a mazda 3 with a 4-cylinder, then you move up to a Mazda6 with the entry 4-cylinder and a V6, then end with a Mazda 9 with the entry v6 and a V8.

Me3 but the V8 and or a V12 when talking about an premium mazda like Lexus is to toyota was slated not for the Millenia which was a entry level Amanti but something that would have replaced the 929 to battle the LS400 and Q45 of that time.

if you took all the technology, features, and POWER of a q45, took SOME lexus interior design things here and there, styled like the millenia, that would be 1 nice ass car

**** it would, but i like the interior and wood treatment especially on the Q45. I honestly think the millenia is dead never to be revived in America. They may come out with a like sized car, but it will havelittle to represent the heritage of our millenia. Look at fomoco to see bits of the millenia in the Taurus, and LS models Ford and its subsidiaries make so many cars already that fit in the same size and money catergory that I doubt they will add 1 more.

My .02

Millenia was supposed to be the first car representing the Amanti line, (Mazda's Infinity/Acura/Lexus etc...) It's a shame but the company was having some real financial issues back then. Now that it's owned by Ford just plain business sense tells me they'll come out with something but it won't be a Mazda 929 or Millenia hatchling.

In the last few years Ford has moved to the "World Car" idiom ie. Focus, Lincoln LS etc. Spinoff of the LS includes the Jaguar S Type and the Ford Thunderbird. Now if Ford can get away with turning a long standing luxury name such as Jaguar into an also ran Lincoln LS Spinoff then they won't think twice when the need again arises for a Luxo Mazda.

So re-thinking the whole think I think we'll see a Mazda9 with mechanicals very reminicent of the LS/T'bird/Jag S-Type.

Not that it's all bad and I certainly love the LS, a good friend of mine drives a very sweet V8 LS. But it's definately not a Millenia or even a 929 for that sake. The LS may be quicker and more packed with options but it just doesn't have that feel.
