I sincerely hope Mazda pursues a 4-door sports luxury sedan (in the real sense) with an RX-8 Rotary engine. The RX-8 Nemesis has just been recognized as one of the most advanced and refined engines. The new luxury sedan (which I would continue to name the Millenia) with the RX-8 engine, would place it well against other entry luxuries such as the Lexus (ES300), the Infinitis (I35/G35), Bimmers and Jags. Mazda has been well known for its Rotary technology for a long time - the Miller Cycle was something totally new and never caught on, so to say.
I hope Mazda is listening and will re-introduce Millenia as a much more powerful vehicle, threby eliminating many of the shortcomings with the present Millenia 2.5 and "S", particularly with regard to Horse power, expensive repairs etc. that have been articulated in this forum. The RX-8 owners would continue to take pride in their sporty looking machines, the Millenia sedan owners would love the RX-8 speed and refineness in the luxury of their 4 door sedan. |

Unfortunately I believe the millenia is now and forever dead. The engine car combo you stated does not have enough tourque to be competitive.

Different day and time you are commenting about and the S still has 210 ft/lbs of torque remember. When relesed in summer of 94 it ran with all the sedans in its class. Mazda just let the car die on the vine. The car was also priced above the Mazda name. In this instance Mazda should have called the millenia an Amanti but sold them within the same Mazda dealerships. They did not sell the Amanti name like Toyota did w/ Lexus because they said money was to tight to start a luxury line-up. So Ford looking to buy volvo as well as holding on to Jaguar decided the Millenia would eventually die. The people at Mazda have had diffilculties keeping it this long while they waited for the ^ to come out. I agree with you Mazda needs something to fight the intro luxury battle.

An rx8 engine in a millenia body or something with 4 real sized doors will not compete with anything...The engine already is underpowered....Mazda loves underpowering ****..... Miata.... underpowered... MP3/Protege underpowered....Rx8 underpowered like a bitch... To me it seems like they stay away from high hp engines...I think they can but they won't...Budget wise I think for now..i think maybe since the 6 and the rx8 will/is doing well they might give the green light....If they did use the rx8 engine they need to use forced induction, or maybe develop a decent V-8 or get the one from the lincoln LS and supercharge it...

Sure they will but Mazda needs cars that are going to sell. A 60k car is not going to do it just like you are not going to buy a 60k toyota. First ting someone is going to say is for 60k I will go buy me a infiniti or lexus because mazda has not made cars that can promote themselves in that catergory of car. You have to have an introduction to market first. That was what the Millenia's initial intended purpose was for Mazda, but Ford shelved that quickly.
