I want to be like bigt and take 95-96 housing, remove the mazda projectors, i.e fake projectors known as ellipsods, and then insert s2000 projectors. but I want to keep a surface free lense so it still looks like a 2000 model. anyone know if this can be done

It can be done but it is a LOT of work. I think its like 4 days worth of sanding. You will quickly see why I decided not to do this step. Here is a link to a guy that did it on his Cherokee. The pictures were not working but the text is still there.

after looking over price and what not. I think I'm gona go custom and basically cut a hole in my old headlights an have the projectors themselfs retrofitted into my current housing. grr...with the projectors and labor it gonna run about 800
