mine will drop rapidly to 1/2, stay there for a bit, then stay forever at the 1/4 mark....

hmm maybe my gas gauge is really screwed up, when its on E im only getting like 175 miles, but when i fill hr up i usually only put in around 12gallons and its full guess i got a nice 6 gallon reserve.. thing is tho when i bought it last month i was getting like 250 a tank, i thought something was wrong with the car but i guess its just the gauge

I've been disappointed in the gas mileage so far. The best I've gotten on the freeway is 23 mpg. I gotta tell you, my 1991 Corvette, and 1995 Z28 both blew this away. I usually got around 27 Highway, and 20 mixed city driving in both of those. I'm getting 20 in the Millenia mixed city driving. I would have thought it would do alot better. It's got style, but I was hoping to reduce the cash for gas.

I must say... I traded my SUV for this car thinking that the highly efficient Miller Cycle engine would save me a few bucks every week on fuel. So far, the savings are non-existent. Partially because I think Im driving too much. I don't know what it is about this car, but you just want to drive it all the time. As one of the previous writers posted, the car's low fuel indicator light does come on early to give ample time to fill up. In a toyota I once owned, I had the same problem, and I've actually began to call this gas needle problem, the Camry Syndrome, named after an old car of mine with a horrible gas needle problem.

The filling up 12 or 13 gallons when empty and bad gas mileage is due to the fuel sending units going bad which is posted in really really really old threads that i dont feel like resurrecting. Perhaps this is also affecting the gauge problem too. The millenia is known for its bad sending units.

i have a 2002 S with now 14,000 miles on it...my gas guage is accurate at full, where it stays for 50-60 miles, then suddenly drops. it will then stay THERE till around 120, when it drops again. It then read 2/3 to 1/2 tank remaining. I drive her hard, but not that hard...It takes it's sweet time to update, then is actually more accurate at lower levels...i think...

overfilling your tank can possibly screw up the guage, my friend has achevy malibu (i think that's the car he had the problem in...) where he overfilled it and the gas guage was always off...and no it wasn't a cheap repair. apparently there's a lever with a float at the end that measures the level and it was so high it pushed it out of the limits and got stuck there...

or was it the car before that...can't think of the type though...whatever...it wasn't cheap to fix...

Both my Milly and Elantra do this. I don't think it's inaccurate. It just makes sense to me that when you fill the tank up, the gas doesn't just stop at exactly the full point. Here's why: you ever notice when filling up, the pump stops automatically when it's full, but then the pump attendant pumps a bit more into the tank to make an even dollar amount? I think this is what causes the level sensor to go even higher, which is why the needle goes a little higher than the F until it can't go anymore. Therefore it just stays there until the level sensor has a chance to go down and even back out with the needle which may take 50-60 miles of gas burning. Then once this happens, you actually get to see how fast the Milly is really takin the gas to the head. It's a normal thing.
