OK guys, since I've seen plenty of threads asking about specs on the Millenia

I'm going to make a pinned topic with answers to the most commonly asked questions such as horsepower and torque, fuel tank, etc.

What questions can you guys think of that are asked a lot? Let me know, and I'll add them to my list and then pin it so we don't have 300 threads asking what suze the gas tank is.

Any suggestions as to other things that might be good to have in a single post should be added here too

Let me know guys...

***NOT DONE YET***

check this **** out and verify it if any of you can
the specs i have copied directly out of my 2002 brochure and are accurate for a 2002 S or L. If anyone has access to their older brochures and a scanner, theres a single page that's near the back of my brochure that lists all this info that I'd like to see a copy of. PM me for an email address....

the list so far:

Mazda Millenia/Millenia S, Eunos 800/800M Frequently Asked Questions

This guide is a BASIC reference guide to many questions that are asked over and over. Please note that some of the information in this guide is related to a specific model as noted.

There are 3 different tiers of the Mazda Millenia. There is a base model which had the fewest features and was produced __ to __. You can tell if you have this model by having cloth seats, no moonroof, and no keyless entry. The Millenia L (which does not have an L badge on the back of the car) is upgraded to better amenities such as the leather seats and keyless entry. Both the Millenia L and Millenia (base) have a 170hp, 160tq 2.5L V6 (which is shared among other Mazdas and fords like the Mazda 626 and Ford Probe.) The Millenia S is a supercharged 2.3L V6 producing 210hp/210tq. The Millenia S uses a Miller Cycle Engine with a Lysholm compressor.

Model differences (years)
Various changes were introduced over the years the car was made. For the most part, the car was only changed every other year. The engine specs for each year have been the same 210/210 for the S, and 170/160 for the L. However, there is a slight difference in the supercharger between the first model years and later ones.
1995 was the first official year, although the car was first sold in the US in early to mid 1994. The 1995 models had projector low-beam headlights, a retractable antenna, and taillights with orange blinkers. The 1996 model had mostly the same features as the 1995. Wheel sizes for the L were __, __ for the S for 1995/1996.
1997 was the first major change for the Millennia. The projector lows were changed to reflectors for low and high beams, the fogs were changed to projectors, and there was no more retractable antenna. 1997 was the last year to have the old Mazda logo. 1998 is similar to a 1997, but has the new Mazda logo. 1997 and 1998 both have the orange turn signals. Rims for the L were __, __ for the S for 1997/1998.
1999 has upgraded rims, vastly upgraded taillights, reflector headlights, and projector fogs. 2000 is similar to 1999 models, with the exception of the 2000 Millenia S Millenium Edition, which had 17” chrome S rims suede interior, and ME badges. Rims were 16” for the L, 17” for the S.
2001 was the first major redesign of the Millenia. Upgrades include new taillights, new front end, improved handling, return to projector low beams, reflector fogs, redesigned interior, more powerful radio (bose only?). 2002 Was similar to 2001, and was the last year the Millenia was produced.

The low fuel light lights up when there is approx 3-4 gallons left in the tank on MOST cars.
30k service is usually around $400-450 US at a dealer and includes a transmission drain and refill, replacement air filter,

Note the "code" in the listings below, which is actually five digits of the VIN number in the following example...

JM1(TA221)-T-000000

...where the part in parentheses is your model's code. Note that these differ mainly by engine type, meaning that "base" or L models don't actually have different codes.

1995
Millenia (base), code TA221: $29335
Millenia S, code TA222: $32435

1996
Millenia (base), code TA221: $28445
Millenia L, code TA221: $31845
Millenia S, code TA222: $34845

1997
Millenia (base), code TA221: $29445
Millenia L, code TA221: $33445
Millenia S, code TA222: $37045

1998
Millenia (base), code TA221: $33445
Millenia S, code TA222: $37045

1999
Millenia (base), code TA221: $28995
Millenia S, code TA222: $31495

2000
Millenia (base), code TA221: $25445
Millenia S, code TA222: $30445 (add for Millennium Edition)

2001

Millenia S, code TA222: $31505

2002
Millenia (base), code TA221: $28505

Engine Data

Standard engine in all non-S Millenias was the workhorse KL-03 V6, sized at 2.5 liters and making 170hp via a DOHC layout. This engine was shared with the smaller 626 and MX-6 lines, as well as Ford's Probe.

The unique and sophisticated Millenia S, however, used the unique KJ V6. Smaller than the KL at 2.3 liters, this was the first and (so far) only automotive engine ever to run on the five-stroke Miller cycle. To make this high-compression system possible, the KJ also carried a supercharger to create a total output of 210hp.

All Millenias were equipped with an electronically-controlled four-speed overdrive automatic transmission. This setup included a switch for "economy" or "power" modes and a "hold" button to allow staggered shifting for special conditions.

Here are instructions that worked for 2000 S ME:

1. Open driver's door.
2. Turn ignition key to ON (not to ACC as some instructions may state).
3. Turn key back off and REMOVE KEY COMPLETELY from ignition.
Do this two more times, removing key completely each time. Do NOT put key back into ignition after third time. Keep it in your hand.
4. Press light switch button at lower back corner of driver's door jam THREE times, making sure that inside lights flicker on and off. (This switch is under the soft black rubber cover. Some instructions say to open and close driver's door three times which should have the same effect but never did for me. Pushing the button did do the trick).
5. Wait a few seconds and the car should chime. It might take several seconds before you get the chime, same chime that indicates door open with key in ignition or seat belt is not fastened.
6. Press the LOCK button on the remote being programmed TWICE.
Wait for the chime again and when you hear it press the LOCK button on the other remotes TWICE. It may take several seconds but you should hear the chime, probably several chimes.
After this final chime, test all remotes for proper function. These remotes work far better than any other remotes I have owned over the years.
You can program up to 4 remotes total according to Mazda.

If the above still does not work then lock all 4 doors with the master door lock button on driver's door. Unlock only the driver's door with the single door button, leaving the other three doors locked. Swing open driver's door and then proceed as above.

calibration should be pretty accurate if the stock 15's, assuming they are 215/60/15, you'd want 215/55/16, or 215/50/17, although 225/45/17 will work on stock rims as well

All millenias with 15s were equipped with 205/65R15s. I fitted 225/60R15s before I got another set of wheels.

Although I may have missed a correction above, ALL 1G millenias have projector fog lamps...not just 97+.

Newer millenias seem to be missing the "crotch vent" underneath the steering column.

The millenia also lost the gear indicator in the gauge cluster after 1997.

My 1995 keyless remote has an ID of KPU41012 and DOC/MDC: 1988 K1248. The remote is unique in that it has the mazda logo embossed on it.

The rear third brake light on 95-96 models and Canadian models use a pair of 921 bulbs instead of the single 1156 bulb.

I also want to say the 2.5L lost ~4hp a couple of years after the start of production to tune up its OBDII compliance.

Question

Am new to MazdaWorld which is great by the way and been going through all this stuff guys and it's really cool ! Apart from the obvious differences such as RHD, interior, lighting regs etc., is the Millenia/Eunos 800/Xedos 9 exactly the same ?

I have the Xedos 9 2.3i Miller and would hate to be missing out on all this info.

Perhaps there could be a comparison chart for all the versions to identify what is common throughout all models and what is not.

Would also be great to get electrical wiring diagrams.

If I've missed any of this stuff, apologies....but like I said I'm new !

Other than what you mentioned, maybe 4WS. Other than that, the engine/drivetrain and most everything else is identical. Welcome to MW. Don't be afraid to start a new topic in this forum to ask your questions. There is a lot of information here, try using the search function to find answers first before accidently double-posting a topic that was asked and answered previously. Have fun!
