Hmm stepper motor can easily miss steps if the torque demand is larger than designed, i.e. if there is dirt.. I assume that egr thing somehow blows to iac valve that would make it gummed.. Using a stepper motor although cheap, is not the best choice IMHO. Cleaning it is in my to do list by now..

I know this is wayyyy old, but I have a question I was hoping could be answered. I just finished cleaning my throttle body and noticed the plastic adapter around the throttle body is cracked in multiple spots. Here's a poorly edited image to show you what I am talking about:
![]() Would this being cracked cause any problems? Does anyone know where I can get a new one? |

I've been having a rough idle, and some hesitation touching the gas off the line.
Thanks for the write up. I just did a throttle body cleaning with some CRC throttle body cleaner. Used a rag, toothbrush, and some Q-tips to clean it up. The throttle body has never been cleaned in 13 years. So it had a lot of varish, tar, oil, and crude. It had a lip of varish/tar on the blades. It also had a rock hard crust of build-up behind the blades when you opened the throttle, that took forever to clean out because it was baked on hard as a rock. I also got a can of CRC MAF sensor cleaner and cleaned the MAF sensor. Then put in a bottle of Techron in the gas tank and filled it up with Chevron Supreme. I disconnected the battery terminal when I did the work. Hopefully after a few days of driving once everything settles in and the computer sets the air/fuel mappings it will smooth out the idle. I also didn't have any carbon build up in the tubes, they were clean as a whistle. Also, looking in at the supercharger, it also looked clean as a whistle (no oil). So I guess that's a good thing. Also, it was a lot of work to get to the point of the throttle body on the S. (So much stuff to remove) This job took me almost 4 hours, but I did spend about an hour cleaning the crude out of the throttle body. Should have been a 15 minute job on most cars. I guess that's a Milly S for you....

Okay, big improvement in idle and low speed pick up off the line when touching the throttle.
I was only able to clean maybe 70% of the gunk from the throttle body mounted on the car. It was difficult/impossible to get the stuff way back behind the throttle butterfly, and the stuff on the top side of the throttle body, due to the awkward angle. I was afraid to remove it because the original 13 year old gasket looked kind of beat. So I think I'm going to order a new throttle body gasket and pull the throttle body and clean it on a bench. I'm hoping that should really smooth out the idle. The build up is almost like black cement on the throttle body. So the only way to really clean it good is to remove the throttle body. I think if you cleaned it every year or two you could just spray it down on the car. But after a decade + of driving without cleaning, it really needs to be pulled to get a good cleaning.
