my baby been acting up, 2000 S, 75K. When i put load on the engine, mostly in first and second gear the engine will hesitate/sputter at that rpm and not accelerate smoothly. new oil/ clean air filter, tried some fuel injector cleaner. I guess my next step is to start checking spark plugs but wanted to see if you guys had any other info before i start taking stuff apart. It is still cold out so i would like to delay until warmer. I am guessing that if a plug is bad/dirty my coil will eventually fry and throw a code?

seems like it sputters less with a full tank of gas. It never does it under normal driving, only if i punch the accelerator. I guess i will start by replacing the fuel filter. I would like it to get a little warmer outside before i start looking for vacuum problems and replacing anything in the engine bay.

Sorry to bump an old thread, did you find the culprit Chitown?
I have the same problem.. Car is smooth when you baby it, but as soon as you try to punch it it feels like it's going up steps, not a ramp. Car sort of lurches, hesitates, repeat, and eventually gets up to speed. |
