They said it's a highly secure key, so they can't make it, and I have to go to dealership...
OMG, It's just a common key, no chip inside, why do i have to pay more for that!!

Someone here told me before that there's an alternative key blank, what's that model?
Much Thanks!!

Locksmith just didn't want to tell you he didn't have the machine to do it...only the more serious locksmiths do. The key blank you're looking for is a late 90s or newer Lexus key. Saying you have a 2000 Lexus LS will get you the right key blank. You'll need to call around to other local locksmiths to see if they have the machine to cut a Lexus key.

I bought key blanks off EBay just sitting here in my room. The Locksmith by me said he wouldnt use them. He said he would only use the ones he has. Their price was $98. Mazda wants the same for it. If you call around and tell a locksmith you have the key blanks I can sell you 2 of them for $10. Thats what I paid for them. Let me know.

Just check around. I found a local guy who had the right equipment and I think he charged me about $25 total, including the blank.

I paid about $35, and I also had to find the right guy. Not only is the key blank not common, only a few locksmiths have the special machine to cut that type of blank. The first guy I went to told me who to go to locally, so just find a locksmith who will be straight with you.

Does this mean they can't cut lexus key neither?
what if I ask for a lexus key instead of a millenia key, will they be able to cut it?

Well my copy key has model number LXP90-P. If none of you're local locksmiths can duplicate laser cut or sidewinder keys then you can order keys from a mazda dealership. Very expensive though. I think you just have to give them your VIN number.

When they tell you they can't make it, ask if they know a place that can. A decent locksmith should know. Personally, I find it easier to get this type of info if I am there face-to-face with the guy, rather than on the phone.

The key cutting machine for these special keys isn't all that fancy or big. The guy I used pulled it from under the counter with one hand, and put it away when done. I suspect that it is expensive for what it is, and not all places feel the cost of it is worth the amount of business they will get.

And I have the same blank as falcon mentioned. It is made by ILCO, if that helps.
