Thumbs down

Hi!!

I tried searching different posts about the egr tube on a 98 millenia s but no luck for me. My CEL is on ans the problem is my dirty Egr tube. I already removed thr Egr valve from it but the other side of the tube does not seem loosen at all. The whole tube rotates with the botom of the nut but if I hold the tube to just make the nut loosen, I cant. any help? recomendations?

Thanks.

the nut is rusted/welded to the tube. when you buy a new pre cat, it comes with a new threaded sleeve. if your egr tube is dirty, you got problems. since there aint no code for a dirty egr tube, how did you figger out it is the tube?

What makes you think it is the tube? What year/engine/mileage? I have never heard of the tube causing a problem. I think that you can just spray down it with carb cleaner, but I might be wrong about that.

Well the code was for the Egr. It was tested and it is fine. the problem is the tube and is super clogged, it has to be cleaned. I dont want to spray the tube attached because all the crap will get in the pre cat or the manifold.( whatever is attached to it). and thats my problem so far.

Doesn't really help you now but when you do get the nut loose make sure and put tons of anti-seize on the threads before tightening. That has saved my ass so many times.

Should i spray carb cleaner on the tube tu unclog it. or what should I do about busting the nut?

Get hold of a torch and an open side pipe or spanner (which grabs the nut on more than two sides). Then torch the nut till it is very hot and try again. I realize access is an issue here, but heat often helds. Copper paste during reinstall is wise.

Lots of PB blaster and let it soak overnight. Just keep hitting it every couple hours with the PB blaster. The first time I had to break that nut loose on one of my Millenias I even had to wrap a PB Blaster soaked cloth around the nut and let it sit for quite a while. The Blaster will creep in and dissolve the rust. It was still a bitch to remove but at least I didn't strip the nut.

Heat always works too.

What code are you getting? If you are getting a EGR flow code p0400, all you may have to do is clean out the egr port from the trottle body side. Mine were clogged shut with soot/oil...

This may help.
