I'm replacing the driver side axle on my 1999 millenia S. I was wondering if I need to drain the tranny fluid to do the replacement?
And, when installing the new one do I need to put anything on the splines going into the tranny?
Thanks

We didnt drain and it spills a little bit. We didnt even top it off cause it was still above max (a tad). I think there is a gasket there that you can change, not 100% sure though.

A guy at mazda said there is a seal there to be careful with. Thanks though, now I dont have to run for the pan while the thing spills everywhere.

there is a seal you cannot really see it is an o ring myn did spit a good amount out but some dont at all just depends on where the fluids are sitting at that time. just when popping it out and pulling it out try to be real smooth same goes for when slipping in new one and no lube or anything is needed on tranny side but a little bit could be used on wheel side.
