Oh man that's not good... Something wrong with the EGR I'm telling. I never got that code until I took the EGR off to change knock sensor.

BTW, had anyone see this?! What are the side effects? Car will run rich/lean? Any harm? This might be the solution for the P0400 LOL

I've seen those plates sold before on eBay. The actual one we need is the one that's diamond shaped (like the EGR gasket) - and, they've had those block-off plates listed on eBay.

At this point, though, I need to focus on fixing my codes as I have an emissions inspection due prior to the end of August, so I can get my tags renewed.

Installing the anti-foulers set 2 new codes on my way into work this morning: P0160 & P0161. Now I need to dig into those a bit more.

The countdown begins ...

Hopefully, I've corrected the P0431 code by using the spark plug anti-foulers in conjunction with my O2 sensor. I should know within the next 50 miles or so if the CEL doesn't come one for that code.

While I had my code reader connected to reset the CEL light after finishing the work this evening, I also realized the P0400 code has re-appeared. I tell you, I get no respect with that code. I'm out of ideas on my attempts to resolve it for good. [/b]
you havent corrected the problem. you have only fooled the pcm into THINKING it is fixed. the cats are clogged. it only gets worse. then you get stuff like backpressure, overheat, burned valves, headgasket, yada, yada.

Yes, I understand. Thank you. The problem I'm experiencing is that it's nearly impossible to locate a pre-cat for a 2002 2.5L Millenia. They sell plenty of them for the 2002 2.3L, though. I do believe Catco made one for the 2002 2.5L ... now, it's just a matter of locating an on-line source for it. Any ideas on where to start? It seems all the big suppliers don't offer it.

Oh if that's the case then yeah you need to renew the tags lol. Where I live, no emission control.

And Kenn is right, email Yel-low...

But any input on those EGR block plates?

I think for those who require emissions inspections, it might be a big "no-no" to have such a device. I'm assuming that the vehicle must run a constant P0400 code since the EGR flow would be restricted. Here's a link to the diamond shaped EGR plate that I know would be required for the 2001 - 2002 Millenias: EGR Valve Plate

Also, I have found what I believe to be the proper Pre-Cat for my 2.5L Millenia. It's made by Catco. The only limitation that I can see is that it only lists it as fitting the 2.5L Milly through 2001, but no mention of 2002. I'm not aware of any changes that Mazda did to the 2.5L between 2001 and 2002. Each pre-cat sells for about $275.00. Catco Part # 1218.

Jesus! $13 for an EGR block off plate?????? People buy that?

If that's the case, I'll make them and sell them for $10. I'm clearly in the wrong field.

I know, I know. If he'd move back to Virginia, he'd only live 30 or so miles from me.

So what are the advantages and disadvantages for this block? Is there any danger on the engine? Any clue?

The guy selling them on ebay did not return my email regarding same questions... So I'm guessing they do more harm than good.
