Default Special Tool when changing brake/rotors?

Is there a special tool that is need to have your brake/rotors changed? I'm looking at having mine changed, but that person I was going to take it to wanted to charge me $100 because it needs a special tool. I know on my girlfriend's Maxima there's a too that's needed but her cousin and i changed hers without one because he knew how to compensate for not having one.

There'es no special tool required unless they consider wrenches special. It's just like any other cars brakes.

I'm no expert and I just changed mine. Just check youtube for: how to change brake pads and rotors. It's pretty easy unless, like me, you get a stuck bolt that refuses to come off and you spend hours on that one wheel. Generally, even for a newbie, the job shouldn't take more than a couple hours. Also order your pads/rotors from rockauto.com, they have great prices.

You may experience a stuck rotor on the hub due to rust. Be sure to fit a good steel quality 8 mm bolt in the threaded hole in the area towards the hub. Use it to extract the disc. That bolt is as close as you get to a special tool unless the disc is really stuck; then a big extractor is handy but big extractors aren't special tools either. He's trying to rip you off.

Lets see, what can be called "special tool" in a brake job, maybe a mightyvac or pliers to compress pistons back ?? .. thats for pads ..
rotors may need a "special" lug wrench like the one in ur trunk...
But if he is changing the whole fluid in the system (must be done with every brake replacement) then his is a fair price...hey fellow members plz ask question to ur mechanic.. if in doub, ask again ...

you guys are completely wrong.

there is without a doubt a specialized tool.

only a hand ful of these tools were made.

it requires specialized training to use.
and just the mere use of this tool can be difficult.

so please dont tell people something you dont know.

I just so happen to own this tool.

I found a rare picture of it on the net so you guys would know exactly what I mean, and then agree that this is without a doubt a specialized tool.

notice the fine craftsman ship.

LOL
