Default Tilt motor question.....

I just bought a millenia and the tilt is not working...

This has been discussed a few times on here, and I've read every topic...and my exact problem never seemed to come up.

I removed the motor and cleaned TONS of gunk out of it, plugged it back in and it worked...great. but the motor stops spinning after about 5ish seconds.

It spins great both ways, but stops. Almost seems like it loses power (I can feel the motor trying to spin, but doesn't seem to have the juice after it stops).

what would cause this? is the motor bad (even though it works...kinda)?

has anyone ever heard of a motor doing this?

I haven't come across people reporting an issue such as yours. However, there's a motor for sale on eBay and it looks like nobody is bidding on it so far. I'm not affiliated with the seller.

thanks, I might have to look at it... it just seems like the motor works, but some how loses "juice"

I'm not knowledgeable at all on this but, could it be something "other" than the motor?

I run the motor it goes, then doesn't have enough juice to spin (it tries)....I let it sit like 15 minutes, then it does the same thing (spins then loses power)

has me completely confused

Is the big gear, the one the little motor's gear connect to ..is stripped .. inside the tilt steering assy is a tranny with a big plastic gear that gets weak with time .. bet is the grease they use (what u report as gunk?) that weakens the plastic teeth of those gears.. or just cheap jap junk..Trouble is that sometimes (my case) chunks of such, get in the path of the motor & break big g in pieces .. I managed to use a flat screwdriver to rotate tranny tru a hole (very difficult spot to work on) to adjust the steering wheel to my preferred position

Yeah that's what I had to do to (screwdriver it to the right position). It just sucks that I spent all that time fixing the motor to have this weird problem pop up. I don't think the gear is striped though (given that I could move it with a screwdriver). However there is a little piece missing from the plastic gear (maybe 1/4 inch, not sure if that is normal or not)...

Mine was in the same condition - small piece of the white gear was missing. I ended up taking the motor and the small pieces of plastic and placing them into a zip-lock bag for that day when I really have nothing to do. Yeah right ... like that's going to happen.

I had the same problem. Replaced the motor and it worked fine again except the wheel barely went up and down. found out the gear that it connects to was cracked. Its a TON of work to replace that gear.

I don't believe we can buy that gear separately from the dealership either. I remember reading where they "consolidated" a large portion of the column and, in order to get the tilt mechanism parts, one has to pay quite a bit - and, buy many more parts than they actually need.

However, I do see used steering columns off and on available for $100 - $150. If one truly needs their tilt function to work, that may be the best way to go - and, also the cheapest.

I just replaced the steering column in one of my Millennia’s with a new replacement. The manual suggests removing the dash to drop the steering column. However, I just cut a piece of the dash directly under the column and was able to remove it. It took me three hours to replace.
