Talking Fuel pump (clarity)

I was reading on 1 post in regards to where the full pump was located on a 2000 mazda milly 2.5.I no it is located in the ,but when I lifted my rear seat I noticed that there is a hole where it appears to be the fuel pump,I see the lines and so forth,or is that the hole for the fuel sender???I am only asking this because in another thread they said you had to drop the gas tank in order to get to the fuel pump.

The other thread is correct. Fuel pump is inside the tank. What you saw in that hole is the (external) filter.

One the 2.5 there are 3 access panels. The one is the trunk is the filter like Saint mentioned. The two under the seat are the senders. Fuel pump is in tank and it needs to be removed to replace it.

Yes! I faced that same d amn thing. I had to spend the afternoon removing those things. Replaced them with Stainless.
I still haven't sorted my issue out but I'm convinced the coil on my needle is just bad.
Rebuild the board and no change.

There are multiple TSBs about the fuel gauge problem. One involves replacement of the fuel gauge and circuit board, another modifies the float on the pump. My hypothesis is that it has something to do with the design of the fuel tank and the operation of the evaporative emissions system. I've driven mine well past E and had the fuel gauge indicate that I had more fuel when I've reached my destination than when I started out. On long highway drives, the gauge sometimes won't go past E at all before I run out of fuel. Ask me how I know.

Thanks to BigB's write-up and some collaboration I have exhausted every single component replacement/rebuild except the actual coil on the needle. I totally rebuild the board with new parts and speced out both senders. My needle won't go all the way to full nor would it trip the low fuel warning light despite the board sending out the proper voltage. I was determined to fix this thing but my coil might have shorted out somewhere.

I test drove a 01 Milly S at 55k miles, same as mine (except 100k miles younger lol). Its needle rocks up and down crazy when I turn the key to on. Mine is very well dampened.
