I just ordered 4 ngk 3741's from rockauto.com for $5 a piece. I'll have to get the other 2 another time. I found a crack in my EGR vacuum solenoid, and need a new one. I just drove to the Tasca parts store, and they couldnt find any record of that part in their system. After i came home frustrated, I searched for "EGR vac solenoid" and up came a prepacked pair of solenoids for $150. I just need the vac one. Heres the part number : K5T44093 KL2019 9219

I cant imagine that they dont have a single solenoid for sale. Is there another that I can use in its place? I've read on other threads that the solenoids in this car are pretty much all the same. Is there another that I can get in its place? Its a 2 port.

Anyways,

Thanks again.

sounds like a HELLUVA deal. on my screen, the 3741 is 9.83 each from rockauto. even when i get them from one of the largest wholesalers in the nation, they are 7 and change. i wonder if china makes bootleg ngk plugs?

Yea, when I was on there, there were 4 plugs left from a wholesale liquidation sort of thing. Rock auto had 4 of the wholesale plugs left, then 9.83 for any more that I wanted. I'm lucky to have found that deal.

Just wanted to mention I've had this same TCS problem before (and have it again, but worse...) and it was fixed by replacing a solenoid (don't remember which one though).

I even made a FULL THREE WEEKS with no CEL. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Just went downtown, TCS came on maybe 8 times on the way home.. had to pull over, turn off, turn back on..

I have a 1999 S, with 149,000km.

The spare coils I have all have "HANSHIN MCP-1551" on the stamped right onto the coil, opposite of the connector side (see pic below). Turns out that Hanshin is a third-party supplier of ignition coils for Mazda, Nissan, Ford, etc. and the part number is a Hanshin part number.

Our cars are getting to old to keep swapping in used ones. These are definitely something to look into I think.

I'm betting if you had replaced the pair that wouldn't have happened. The things are like light bulbs. When they start life as a pair and one goes out, the other isn't far behind.

Good info thanks.

I called the dealership where I got that work done today and they said they replaced the Air Bypass Valve Ohhhh that's the ABV I've been reading so much about.. I remember the original place tested my solenoid but it was working, which was why they gave up I think.

But is that a "ABV Solenoid" ? Hrmph.

this is why you NEVER take your car to the dealer. the abv SOLENOID(vacuum-KJ01-18-741A, and/or vent KJ03-18-741A) both are sugg list of 76.78. the actual valve, KJ01-20-250C, is 611.51. and the valve is very easy to test. plus, it NEVER goes bad, but the solenoids go bad all the time. so, i would first verify that the valve is actually changed. then, i would get a guarantee in writing that this is gonna fix it, cause it AINT. and if it dont fix it, then do you get a refund? because they are just as confused as anyone else, and they are throwing parts at it. they dont care, as long as you are paying for the parts. if THEY gotta pay for the parts, then they might start to care
