Default 95 Milly **** on me today

Okay so here are the car details:

-195xxx miles.
-1995 regular 2.5.
-original engine and transmission.

I'm not super sure what's wrong with the car yet but I'll try and explain to the best of my knowledge.

When I turn the car on for the first time each day it shoots out a little bit of blue smoke out the exhaust. It doesn't get out of 3rd gear, won't go passed it. Goes up to 3rd no problem. I'll be going 40mph and the rpms will be at 3,5k. Also with the tranny being in the condition it is, my oil reservoir only lasts about 100 miles and then it's all burned up. Full oil tank will last only that short. What could that be? valves? or like a blown head gasket? Anyways, this sounds like a pretty serious breakdown, if it gets to be too much to fix I think I'm going to sell the car.

Input is high appreciated. Thanks guys.

edit: I guess I should say that I did take real well care of the car, never abused it or anything. But it has been driven in Ohio for 15 years. So constant salt/snow.

I think the OP means he is burning engine oil, and at a very rapid rate at that.

Blue smoke out the exhaust means engine oil is getting past the piston rings, so a major engine rebuild or swap will be needed. Does not indicate a blown head gasket or valves.

At 195K, I think your car is tired, but road salt won't kill rings, so IMO something must have happened to the rings in one or more cylinders.

Clarification- engine is burning oil at a very rapid rate.

anyways, i finally got some time and i called my dad up and apparently at one point in time when he was driving the thermostat busted in the car and it overheated. he took it to some mechanic and it was diagnosed with bad valve seals. so i'd bet my money that that is the reason the oil is like literally evaporating.

any clue what could be up with the tranny? could it just be age? i can afford to buy a new tranny if it becomes too expensive to fix the current one. but i can't afford to buy a new engine + tranny.

Let me save you ~$,2000 USD in headache and lost cause. Sell the car unless you have some serious emotional attachment to it.
The bad valve stem seal theory is garbage. That motor was run low on oil and you fried the piston rings. You don't have to take my word for it. Have your shop do a full compression/leak down test. They should have done that in the first place.

Worn stem seals on a 2.5 has a %0.09 chance of occurrence unless you toasted the motor and ran it dry. At that point worn steam seal are the least of your concerns. Either way.... at this point its cheaper to buy a whole new engine and swap it out rather than pay the labor to bust the engine open and replace 16 stem seals priced at ~$0.20 cents each.
