My mate was a bit busy today with some work he has in, so he said he will help me set the timing and put the belt on tomorrow. Then I will put everything back on and cross my fingers. Will post back tomorrow night and hopefully it will be good news!

Sorry I've not posted for a few days, I've been having problems with my internet connection which has now been finally resolved!!! I got the timing marks set and had the belt put on by my mate and have put everything together apart from the back timing belt cover as it is being a pain so I give up. When I tried turning it over it was very slow so I put my battery booster on it and filled the battery to smoking and it was still very slow. So I borrowed a battery and it did the same thing and then, the starter motor burnt out. But even though it was turning slowly it was firing slightly. So think I will replace the starter motor in the week. If that doesn't work then it will be going to the scrap yard as too much has been spent on it trying to bring it back to life already! Thanks

I'd bet your timing is off. Even for a seasoned vet you sometimes botch the job and have to do it all over. The slow crank sounds like your compression cycle is off.

Well if the timing is off and too tight for the starter motor too turn at the right speed, then my mate would have noticed that the crank was tight when turning it by hand twice after tensioning the timing belt wouldn't he? I will be ordering the new starter motor tomorrow and removing the old one so should arrive this week and should be able to fit it. Thanks!

Ehhh not really. Its not that tight to be noticeable. I've been guilty of it in the past and I've done more than enough timing jobs. A simple compression test would tell you what you need to know.

Second hand stater motor arrived this morning so I fitted it this afternoon and it's turning over great again. It is firing great but not enough to make the car start, so I presume it isn't firing on all 6 cylinders or I have got the leads the wrong way round on the distributor cap, or worse case scenario one of the fuel injectors is knackered. Will do a compression test tomorrow to see how it is now, will check spark plug leads order and will clean the spark plugs and contacts on the inside of the distributor cap. I'm getting there finally because now it's firing but we shall see what happens. I'm determined to get it running before new year!!! Will post back tomorrow night. Thanks!

Started it today!!!!!!!! Put a bigger battery on it and found the rotor arm was on the wrong way round (as it can go on 3 different positions) So now it is started, but it sounds like it's only running on 4 or 5 cylinders. Will inspect tomorrow and post back if I find anything out. Thanks!

It was only running on four cylinders but discovered I had the 5 and 6 leads the wrong way round! So now it's running great! Just hope it passes the MOT now! Going to get the exhaust welded up and try putting the rear cambelt cover on again and tighten the power steering belt and it's done! Will have that done this week hopefully and will post back as I progress to get it on the road. Thanks!

Sorry not posted back for a while. Just a update, have give my Xedos 9 a full service now; new spark plugs, new fuel filter, new power steering and alternator belts as well as putting some Justice Brother Oil System Cleaner through the engine before changing the oil for new 10W40 mineral oil and oil filter, that got rid of the knocking hydraulic lifter! Also have welded the back box on the exhaust up so will be MOTing it before Christmas I hope! Just hope it passes and doesn't fail on anything! Can't wait to give it a blast after it being stood still for 5 months! Will also be buying my other Xedos 9 back of my mate which I sold to him a week after buying this non runner! So now I will have 2 up my drive Thanks!
