I don't know if I'd go the STi route. I really like the 2-door Impreza 2.5 RS and I'll just probably start off stock and see what needs to be done.

Also a good choice, esp. if you haven't ever done any racing an STI racing open class would be a lot to handle as a starter car. From what I have seen (and I do not claim to be a rally expert) It really doesn't matter what car you start with except for drive and hatch, coupe, or sedan. It is all on the driver and how much money you can put in to it. the old 80's cars are still kickin ass out there.
