On all the ones I have seen, the part where the vacuum line connects to is plastic. I guess they use a little too much force to break free the old lines and break the connector.

the one i have out in my garage is dirty, but it sure looks like metal to me. the dashpot is brass-looking, and the vacuum port sure looks like the same color/composition as the rest of it. but anyways, i always grab the vacuum line and twist it on the port to break it free before pulling it. one more part to be careful of, good to know. i might just go and get the one off that parts car in ft worth. helluva drive, tho. effing traffic makes it about a 2 hr trip each way

maybe it's off a newer / older vehicle, but on 96-99 models, that nub is definitely plastic

Default Thanks for all the comments

Everyone,

I appreciate all your input. FYI, I just purchased a 2002 S with only 43K miles, so I'm planning to "borrow" the bypass actuator from it over to my 150K mile 2001 S to pass the visual test to receive the CA smog waiver ( the waiver allows me 2 years to make repairs and pass smog, or take the car off the road in CA). Yel-low has been very helpful in providing advice to help me prepare the engine to pass my smog test. Unfortuately, it appears that both the pre CATs are toast (Supercharger has been emitting oil into the air intake in fairly large qty for at least 25K miles), and the cost to replace with CA approved equipment (and the headache to replace) is just not cost effective for me.

I'm the orginial owner of the 2001 S and have really enjoyed the car until the recent smog hassles. I'll just enjoy her for the remaining two years and then offer her for sale to either an out of state buyer, or to a local dismantler. I hope it is the former. She still runs good and drives real sweet.

Thanks again for checking your parts supply for a used actuator. A smog parts outfit recommended by CA Bureau of Auto Repar quoted me $180 exchange for just the actuator, so it has some value. The actuator in my 2001 S had a plastic tube, not metal.

Thanks again for everyone's comments and posts.

Gary

I am looking for a good used Valve Body Assembly. Let me know if anyone has one available. I have a 2001 Milly S. Thanks!

Default No longer looking for bypass valve

Fracula,

Thanks for replying to this post, but I no longer have a need for a good used Intercooler bypass actuator valve. I think Saint may be looking for some parts from the CAC. PM him and ask.

Thanks,

Gary
