so after thinking about this a while I recall a problem I had with a car once while the alternator / battery were week. When breaking heavily the voltage would dip since the RPM would drop and the alternator would produce less power. Since the battery was almost dead the lights would dim.

Just wondering if it could be related to your alternator issues from the other thread.

if you connect a volt meter to your cig lighter and drive around that should be fairly definitive. if the needle dips when you brake, the battery is weak.

but... it still sounds like the vac line from the brake booster. if the booster itself is not leaking look at the lines.

normally when I disconnect the brake booster line right at the booster I hear a loud "hiss" meaning it was keeping vacuum even when the car was off (that is good)

if you didn't hear the hiss, you might still have a leak somewhere.

would a loose serpentine belt cause a knock sensor code? just asking. interestingly enough this started happening after i changed the serpentine belt. also i tightened it a bit this morning and the cel turned off and didnt turn on on my way to work, which usually happens when it turns off by itself.

just curious.

gf went on vaca so ill have plenty of time during the weekend to check on the vac line big b lol

I am supprized no one has jumped on this. your 173 code is a vacuum leak under the intake manifold. Mazda has re-enginered the plastic that the "T"s are made of and are better. But do your self a favor and go to your friendly PETSMART store and get some brass "T"s they use in the air systems. Same size and you'll not have to do this again. This job is a little time consuming, but you can do it. And some times the 0325 comes on with this code to.
