I have an 89 Mazda 323 sohc 1.6 liter 4 cyl. I recently replaced the head gasket. It ran fine for a couple of days, then the check engine light came on. It is getting way to much fuel, will run when it's cold, but misses and pours out black smoke. I grounded the green single pin connector ( near the master cylinder) and the check engine light flashes one long flash and 8 short. Does anyone know what this means? Any help would be appreciated. Post a reply or e-mail me at al351@excite.com Thanks, Al Lentz |

Well code 18 is a TPS code. ( throttle position sensor ) but that model did'nt use code 18. When you first hookup to test the codes the engine light will come on initially for a rather long time then flash codes. A code 8 is air flow meter which sounds like what you have going wrong. Code 18 was exclusive to RX7 model. So i think you counted the system primer as a flash. Check the airflow meter.
