Car trouble

Help!!!!!! My wife & I have a '96 Protege & have had minimal trouble since getting the car 4 years ago. A week ago, my wife went to get the oil changed. While there, Jiffey Lube indicated that the engine needed cleaning, so we went ahead & got that done while there. Before this, we had trouble w/ our engine light. It has been on for some time. We got the engine light replaced & yet it still has been on. The day that Robyn took the car to get the oil changed, she noticed that the light was off. After Jiffey Lube put oil in the car & cleaned the engine, they said that smoke would come out of the car for a day or so. We have noticed that the engine light has been flashing ever sibnce & the gray smoke has been sparatic. What do we do? Any suggestions as to what may be wrong or what needs to be done to fix our problem? Any suggestions, would be appreciated.

I'd personally take it to a dealer and get the codes diagnosed and find out exactly the problem.. after that, then you can work on fixing it

it the light is flashing on and off such as an security light does then it means it has gone past fail safe mood and needs to be takencare of. there is no reason smoke should come out of your car ever, especially after just getting the oil changed
