Question 1997 Protege Base - Dash/Climate Control lights not working

We just got this car and the dash and climate control lights do not work. All other lights (instrument panel warning lights, dome, headlight, tailights, etc.) are now working.

I've done extensive research and I'm pretty sure it's the dimmer (rheostat) switch that may be defective. This is one of 3 switches on the left side of the dash that has the roller button to dim or brighten the dash/climate control background lighting.

I cannot figure out how to get to the back of the 3 switches to pop out the dimmer switch. I have a new/used one I got from a salvage yard. I've also checked a Haynes manual and it's pretty confusing (to me, anyway).

Can someone please help?

Thanks!
