Hey I have a 92 929 and when I purchased the car the guy told me that i need to replace the solenoid in the shifter. I was wondering if this is complicated fix or expensive. What happens is every now and then it locks up on me and wont move when I go to put it into gear. And if I tap the shifter it will go in gear if it freezes up. If I put it back in drive I hear like a buzz for about 3 seconds which i assume is the solenoid engaging or something. Anyone know of the issue or is it really uncommon.

If this is the "inhibitor" switch, which it does sound like it might be, the part is relativly expensive but not hard to replace. I would let the dealer fix this thing and get some promises from them to replace it for free if it fails again. Had three go out on my 89.

Yeah the guy actually gave me the part to have it put in, I just need to have it done. I just had never heard of a solenoid in the shifter. I was also wondering if I left it the way it is would it in time get worse. Its just an every now thing now anyway.
