Pics below
What i found was that i had 2 rotors warped as **** and 2 rotors that were too thin to be machined. this is 2006 and the car has 280,000KM on it, on original factory Rotors.. So im like OK lets replace them with fancy slotted/drilled ones... Found a company that makes pretty decent rotors for fairly cheap. Diamond tipped slots not rounded, nice zinc plating, CNC machined, whatever.. Got her done in 2 days. one afternoon and one morning. The old rotors had to be removed with flat-prybar and an 8 pound sledgehammer... thank god i didnt screw up any of the bolts... the bolts for the caliper brackets had to be removed by putting a snipe on a breaker bar and doing a running donkey kick into the thing to crack them. Result, 2 stripped heads (thank goodness i had an irwin bolt removal kit) 2 damaged but re-useable heads The mazda people used these huge long smooth shaft bolts that go ito a sleeve filled with grease and it has a rubber stopper at the end of the bolt. they of course sealed and were pressure-locked... LOTS of fun to remove. new ones went on like a dream (i got oem size not "big brakes" those look gay) replacing TWO bolts for the caliper brackets cost me 60 dollars from mazda.. i wirebrushed and sanded the calipers/brackets and painted them blue with brush-on caliper paint. in the future i do intend to replace the calipers, brackets, brake lines, etc, so i only did them up blue to avoid looking at rustyass calipers when my summer mags go on. (My oem rims have winter tires on) ANyways here is my baby... What do you all think? Is it a good policy to have that i just find stuff wrong... and instead of patching it, replace the entire thing, and replace with performance parts whereever possible? Total cost for this brake job including the two cans of penetrating releaseall lubricant (godsend, truly) = $600 USD Some of the homeless bums or street punks from my (bad) area came along at midnight, saw my car up on front jackstands with no wheels on it,. and pushed it off. Jackstand went through the transmission pan dented my 2 day old thousand dollar custom exhaust, and screwed up my brake dust shields pretty bad.. no other damage. repair cost = $200 CAD ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Seriously god bless this product. Cheap as **** and works great if u can let it sit and soak in for 2 or 3 mins. side note, i did notice an improvement in braking especially with the really nice pads the guys that sold me the rotors included. no more shuddering stops... and while i now have a bit of a brake squeal problem im pretty sure ive identified why and i might fix it this spring. |

I would never leave my baby up on jack stand over night in an unsecure area...
Its better off to just upgrade using performance parts, in the end its better off. You spent alot on your brakes, rotors look great but how do they work ? What kind of pads are you running ? Im not sure blue calipers goes good with the color car you have but to each their own (how bout silver)... And your exhaust shop ripped you off. I like the tip but where did the $1000 go ? I changed my exhaust 3 times and didnt even spend $600. Can we get better pics of the exhuast system ? for that price you better be using mandrel bent piping...

ill make a thread for the exhaust. its pretty pimp.
took it to the best custom/performance exhaust shop in the city, it ended up being 700 Cash.. and she aint just straightpipe ![]() the rotors were like 300 US and change from Rconcepts.. i liked them and they have about the best customer service out there. they shipped me only enough pads for my fronts and ONE rear. i called, and they shipped me a whole new set of rears so i have extra pads now too.. Premium Semi-Metallics... I dont need to worry about brake dust screwing with my rims cuz i wash regularly and the oems are already trash. when i put on really nice 18's and redo the brakes for real, i'll use organics or whatever. |

Yea, but it was only an 1/2 rachtet and the challenge was on. But like allways, my nine tells me whos boss (or atleast gives me a few scars to prove it). The only prob is, havent seen that brand of penetrating oil around here.

theres a million brands and types.
they sell this **** for 4bux a can up here theres stuff at the import store here thats 20bux per can, its 100% synthetic, designed to do something to metal, its beyond nuts, the guy says if theres somethihng it wont open, the can is free. anything helps i figure... when all you need to do is soak it into the rust and help crack that ****... and then when its cracked u soak it even more, so you avoid stripping the head, or snapping the head right off, something else ive done that really sucks. its not penetrating oil its a penetrating superlubricant.. that oil **** wont do **** all. |

hey welcome to the forum.
"Is it a good policy to have that i just find stuff wrong... and instead of patching it, replace the entire thing, and replace with performance parts whereever possible? " Not always, In your case replacing the rotors with slotted/drilled ones is a mistake unless you dont mind replacing pads every 3 month. And i don't think you'll ever get those rotors hot enough to take advantage of the drilled part of it. Drilled/slotted is usually for autocross racing where you are running around a track for a number of laps, and then usualy the brakes are good for one race. As far as replacing everything else with performance there is barely anything for the 929. Everything performance has to be custom made. I'm really confused about how mutch the brakes cost you... you said 600$ but then you said it was 300$ for the rotors so where did the other 300$? go tranny oil pan, and getting the old rotors turned? |

It should be :
"and instead of patching it, replace the entire thing, and replace everything with custom parts where ever possible on the 929 " What Dmeetro is saying stands correct. Unless your planing to replace pads frequently, those great looking rotors are not working as good as say a Brembo OEM replacement with some Hawk pads or sumthin; seems that your going for looks though. Imma take a guess and say you dont autocross... Make sure you get good fitting rims in the future...
