Its been about a month since Ive been back home & have had time to mess around with the 929 collection. Its been over a year since Ive done anything really. More recently Ive found the perfect parts car. Its a family owned 1990 with 262,000kms, silver 2 tone & tan/brown interior. Many new parts have been replaced in the last 5 years. The only problem is that it was sitting outside with a blown head gasket for the last 2.5 years. $350 later I drove her on to the flatdeck & dropped her off in my back yard.

how I found her...

...after a quick wash all the mildew and crap came off nice

I wasted no time getting to work. The next day had the front end off & was in the process of updating my 89'. Everything from the bumper supports, rebar, rad supports, & headlights were traded over. I went with the series II front end because of the cleaner bumper lines & bolder grill. The only problem I have with it is the black trim around the headlamps opposed to the chrome that came on the series I. In the future I will find a way to make that happen. The ballin is rollin now on the steps I need to take so I can get the car painted in the spring. Like originally planned, Im going with a dark green, perhaps British Racing Green of some sort. Then she will be retired for a couple years & my blue 90' will handle my daily driving duties.

previous damage from Aug 2006 -

getting work done in near freezing temperatures outside is not too fun.

the finished product, nice to have 2 headlights again. rollin on my 16x7+30 DP's up front & 16x7+40 FC turbo II wheels in the rear. the parts car came with near new tires on the OEM rims so I swapped them over shortly after to handle the winter weather we get here for the next 2-3 months.

Ive also picked up some "new" wheels so I can shape the fenders before painting. Last week my shipment from RB Motoring in California arrived. I decided to get some rims to hold me over until I can find the perfect set. They are nothing crazy in terms of fitament but enough to get me started. The wheels are JDM Enkie Sporsh, made by AME who still manufactures VIP wheels today. If you check out the AME Shallen AX you will notice it has not ventured too far from its "Enkie" roots. At well over a decade old these rims are in very good condition, about 7.5-8.5 depending on the rim. The fronts measure 17x8 +9mm offset with a lip 64mm (2.5") deep. The rears are larger at 17x9 +9mm offset as well with a lip 76mm (3") deep. This week I will buy tires, Falken FK 452's sized 205/50/17 & 215/45/17. Stretch will be in effect & this will help clear the fenders (gaurds) which I plan to roll. I would like them to be done professionaly or rent the machine but I might have to settle for this method - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDTK9IjKIYU . The one thing that must be dealt with so I can run these wheels properly is the nasty camber up front. In the next month I will have some real progress done on this subject. Hopefully the slammed rear end allows for enough camber.

This also means Im selling my staggered 16's, lemme know if anyone wants them.

In the next month I plan to strip down the rear end (subframe) on the parts car so I can swap it over to my blue 90'. Source a FC clutch type LSD & strut bar. Roll the fenders & fit the wheels on my 89' for future reference. Im hoping to get my 90' on the road by January when I can solve the subframe problem. Soon after that all the good stuff on my 89' will have new life in my 90' as I retire my original 929 for the next couple years.

More updates to come real soon...

Please dont say british racing green, there is hardly a more disgusting colour but i guess its all just personal preference.

9ine your parts car is as clean ****, would have been nice to restore it. Personally, I like the series 1 front bumper better. I would have just swapped the grille and the trim, but its all personal taste,I guess. I can't wait to see what it's going to look like when it is done. 9ine you should consider doing an all red tail light mod like on mine. It looks way more modern. Mine is all red and carbonfiber, I'm going to change the carbonfiber parts to black. It is all vynal, comes out great and no painting.

This is what it looks like - LINK
Just take the black trim pieces to a chrome plating place. The one that I go to charges $75 for that job.

nine2nine - I will be color matching the moldings and leaving the chrome trim. The rear bumper will also be updated. The green Im looking for is something along the lines of this picture below, with more candy & still maintaining a darker green. I havent put much effort into the part color, I just have my ideas as it will most likely take place in March. I know for sure with a set of gold faced wheels, chrome dish will deffinetly set of a dark green car.

mazdaspeed929 - Your killin my thread, hopefully Dmeetro brings out the broom a for few of the posts above. As for the bumper, I still like the series I but really miss the chrome trim more. I would stay with the orginal if I could somehow fabricate a cleaner lower lip. Its a waste of time at this point as I am tryin to juggle 3 cars. The parts car is real clean, most of the darker colored brown from it will be swapped over to my 89'. It did kinda hurt to rip the **** out of it but that was the whole point. Theres so much crap that can be traded over...

As for your HC, I like the red over the orange, Ive considered doing this way back but cosmetics dont matter much to me at this point. Stance & fitament is what Im after. The carbon fiber can easily look ricey if not done right, personally Im not a huge fan. I would like to see a closer pic of the red paint on the lights and the black vinyl, send it to my PM box & keep my tread on topic.

Look ricey? Isnt that the whole point of those rims deuce?
A 929 will never look good ricey. Even 1jz929 looked rubbish to me cause a "i wish i was a skyline" sticker seemed as though it would have been the next step.
They just need to be kept tidy with huge rims, ridiculously low and luxurious, like they were meant to be. Thats just my 2c...
Sorry for adding this on ur thread deuce, its just that ur ricey comment caught my attention.

Im refering to how carbon fiber can look rice & your asking me about my rims ? Im confused on how you think im leaning towards anything ricey. The whole point of the rims is to push the fitament, roll clean & classy. If you see the direction Im goin, it has nothing to do wid rice.

Check your PM.
