Alright..soo my A/c compressor in the 929 i "thought" wasnt working. but i was told that i needed to jump it, because it didnt have any freon in it from the previous owner. So i doo that, and its spinning! i get freon, charge it up.. with a small can..it doesnt get cool. So i go get a big can, and crank it start to fill it, and its ice cold, but it starts to make a loud clicking noise from the compressor(lke a baseball card in a bicycle spoke).. but it stops when i rev the motor. So i empty the can... and after about 20 minutes.. i stop filling, and notice its not as cold as it was.. its just cool air..But the clicking stopped..

Do i need more freon?

What was that clicking noise?

i went back out there, and the A/c was ice cold, and the clicking stopped..

What year 929, what kind of refrigerant, R-12 or R-134a? If you put in the wrong type without doing a conversion the system will fail soon via "black death". www.ackits.com for a full discussion. Did you pull a vacuum on the system before dumping in refrigerant? My recommendation is to vist the above site and go through your system to make sure it's set up properly. I have an 89 929 that still is bone-crushing cold and on the original R-12 charge so these systems can be pretty reliable. The clicking noise is the A/C compressor clutch engaging and dis-engaging. rapid clicking is no good. Click 1.........2..........3 may be all right, 1.2.3. NG. each . is about a second :-)

If the thing still has the r12 fittings, probably still r12. Stick with it if you can or do a real r134a conversion. www.ackits.com

There is a rated charge that gives best performance. Any more or less, you are loosing efficiency. The total freon amount might be on a sticker on the hood. You have no way of knowing the amount left unless you do a vacuum.

You have to add proper amount of special lubricant as well. Most R134a cans come premixed, but check it out. As far as I know you cannot buy R12 anymore.

Clicking can also be ice particles from the water that gets into the bare dry system in winter.

You can buy R12 on the black market....

The best way to get it to work right, if there isn't any leaks is to get it vacuumed and then filled to the proper level.
