Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the '92 929 has a seperate starter relay between the ignition switch & the solenoid on the starter motor & if so where is it located. There is a box with a few relays in it in the engine bay but I don't know if one of these is the starter relay (starter cut relay)
Thanks,
Trev.

Hi,
Yes, I have an intermittent starter problem. Sometimes when I try to start the engine it won't crank. No clicking noises like when the solenoid or starter motor is on the way out - nothing. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 turns of the key before it starts, but so far it allways starts. Then it will be Ok for a few days. It can do this when the engine is hot or cold. Gauge lights come on ok. Have tried it in Neutral & same thing can happen - so not the Park switch.
I ran a temporary seperate earth wire from the battery to the engine - still happens - so probably not an earthing problem.
It's hard to diagnos a problem like this which only happens occasionally. If I take it to an auto electrician the usual quick fix is an exchange starter motor but this is expensive & I want to make sure it isn't something else first.
I thought that if there is a seperate relay between the ignition switch & starter solenoid I could try that first.
Any suggestions welcome.
Regards,
Trev

i don't think these cars had the starter relay.... what you described is dying starter (at least in my experience). tap it and it should turn.... been driving with a broom handle in the boot for almost 2 years, now and then have to tap it for a week, sometimes will drive for 5+ months and no issues
