ok guys some of you may have S2 Sedans with SOHC, or JF-Ts S2....

we have an issue of no one making a replacement alternator for us, you either have S1 unit that has different wiring, or have HD one which has "multi-v" pulley but right wiring.

the issue here is the HD and HC alternators have different size shaft, hence pulley cannot be swapped. for australians there is an alternative, EF-EL Falcon V8 alternator, that is 110A..... but just like HD it has multi V belts pulley and different size shaft.

since i am faced with alternator swap soon i cannot justify paying $200+ for rebuilding standard 70A unit when i can get a good Falcon unit for $50.

now the questions:

* recommendations on pulleys and where to get them? Sim i think i came across your post on ausrotary some time ago where you did this to S4 FC(?), what pulley did you use?
* i were to go 110A, would wiring cope? what are precautions?

thanks guys

okies multi v belt pulley is a series 6 rx7 alternator rated at 100 amps.

my HC being the rotary version 1990 has the series 5 rx7 alternator rated at 80 amps. so it has the same shaft size as the series 6. so its just an alternator and pulley swap for me... no wiring mods needed.

but cause my stereo is 1.9kw in total ive opted for a custom rebuild that puts out 200amps and is $475US but its all brand new parts and should last me 20 years. ie life of car

but definetly need to upgrade B+ wire to handle 200 amps..

now if your saying the shaft size is different. have you had the pulley off and looked? sometimes the nut/thread sizes are different to the actual shaft sizes so be careful quoting shaft sizes without actually taking the pulley off to look.

if your running a 70 amp alt from factory jumping to 100-110amps you will definitely need to upgrade your B+ wire (thick one for charging)

take a pic of the back of the alternator and post it so i can take a look at it and advise properly everything you need to do..

cheers

i think its the same as FC/FD

do you need a picture of the back of alternator (wiring side or the back back) or do you need a pick plugged. i have one alternator pulled apart will take a pic soon.

Is the pulley off of it? That's the biggest hurdle when taking them apart. Can you post a picture of the wiring side of your alternator? So that I can have an idea of the wiring side. How much would a shop charge me for an alternator that I've already pulled out of the car and disassembled?
