Exclamation The end of an era...

The 929 is safe...

...But...

...I bought a Toyota.

There really isnt another way out wording it. Over the last few years my forum presence was sporadic at best. Trust me, I love everything about the 929 but my time has come.

Im the guy who saw a Mazda 929 back in the late 80's as a child thinking they dont make Japanese cars this nice. Fast forward to the late 90's when I see the first, & one of the last 5 speeds around. It wasnt till late 2002 till I could get my hands on the one & only 9ine Deuce. I put as much time & effort a broke college kid dump into his ride. Then in 2006 I get a chance to do it all over again. Thousands of dollars later, hours & hours of wasted time gone by & I find my self here & now in 2011 almost 30 years old. Now Im on my last Mazda...

It has been a blast. When I came on these boards in 02' there was nothing here of interest. I felt lost. For the first few years I kept thinking, why didnt I just buy a car that people modded. Im glad I didnt. I also didnt think I would be here for almost ten years. I worked my ass off to push this product. Even if it meant translating the Japanese Luce site. This car is the ultimate unsung hero of Mazda (The HC that is). It took a couple years get going but there was actually a small group of enthusiasts who came here, wore the colors & shared the knowledgeable information. Some of us are still here & others... well who knows, Im about to be one of them. To the original 929 cult members who put in hours of work on these boards & your 929's, I want to thank you for your time & effort.

Some would ask why but it all makes sense. A 20 year old Mazda 929 is expensive to maintain & is not a practical daily driver for my 50km work commute. Ive done most the mods I could ask for, some I didnt even get around to. Reality is I could be putting money into this car for the next few decades. I cant make it work anymore. Even if I had an extra spot for it, it would be tough to justify. If I was 50, well maybe I could make an excuse up to keep it.

So what am I driving now ? Well after taking my first corner I knew that nothing will every feel like the 929. I really miss driving it. After spending 125,000kms in this chassis, I dont think it will ever be enough. The big 3500lb Toyota replacement is unfortunately FWD. It takes the fun out of driving but I can live with it. Ive had it since November & never looked back. I already begun stock piling parts... Id give more clues to what it is but Im keeping it quiet till I put it all together for the spring. Im only doing this since it is a worthy successor to the 929.

Thats the best I could do at making a long story short.

For anyone whos interested. Im selling my blue 1990 929S with 108,000kms

I also have a garage full of parts that i will either include or part out.

If anyone is interested in the KDM projectors, Im selling my set.

PM me for details

Ill have some pics and videos to come....

that sucks.
You will regret it.

But i also think that one should not keep more cars than you can care for, it would be a pointless tragedy for a 929 to rot away..

thats sad man, I know how it feels, I've had mine for 6 years, done 76,000km (now at 256,000km) without too many issues, it just keeps going.

But I concede I'll have to change it eventually one day and get that Citroen CX

Im sorry deuce, its a heavy front wheel drive, so its not a worthy successor.

Good luck with it anyway, we all change cars from time to time.

Best of luck. You were an inspiration, you brought me to this site from your Cardomain site.
Most people will come full circle in time. From old to new, cheap to expensive, auto to manual, econ to sport, low maintenance to high. I know i have.
I'm on my 2nd 929 after swearing off heavy, long wheelbase automatics multiple times.
Be sure to drop in and tell us about your Toyota, I'm sure you'll do it justice as you did your 929's.
