well seeing as how there is no post anywhere on the 929 forum on how to remove the brake master cylinder, I figured I would do one for you guys.
seeing as i had no guide or manual, i was using my shop mirror and a flashlight to look at it from as many angles as possible. here is the process i took: (you dont have to but it makes it easier if you remove the angle from the intake) 1) drain the reservoir of all the fluid you can then remove the brake lines with a 10mm line wrench. 2) using a 1/4", 5" socket extension w/universal joint with 3" extension and i believe a 10mm socket (maybe a 12mm) remove the nuts attaching the bracket and the master cylinder to the brake booster. 3) wiggle the bracket to the passenger side of the car and get the lines out of the way, because you will need all the room you can get to remove the master cylinder. 4) now pull straight back untill you get the cylinder off the bolts. 5) rotate the cylinder until you have the reservoir pointing to the passenger side of the hood and lift up and out. 6) now for the really hard part! open fridge, insert arm, retrieve beer, open beer, enjoy. i found out that the reservoir is held on by a Phillips screw, and there just isn't enough room, even with a shorty drive, to remove the screw which honestly would have made removing the master cylinder way easier. but, remove the screw and place the cylinder at your feet and lightly apply pressure with your feet and pull up, it should give way and pop out. |

ok, I got the new master cylinder in now I'm just waiting on my friend to get here and then we can bleed the brakes, but the question is if the master cylinder is good or not, it was a reman. from o'riley's so it has 90 return/limited lifetime warrenty, but remans can go bad from the box.
also i found that it was easier to remove the bracket from also. jsut remove the lines from the top of the valve on the side and get the bracket out it makes reinstalling the master cylinder way easier. |

It's very simple. Empty out the old master cylinder by using a syringe or just dip rags or an old sponge. Remove the lines from the master cylinder to the brakes. Be very careful not to strip the nuts. Then cover the lines with a small plastic bag so they won't get dirty or leak. Next, remove the two nuts that hold the master cylinder to the black booster and it should come right off.

It's very simple. = not
remove the two nuts that hold the master cylinder to the black booster and it should come right off. easier said than done as i stated there is not enough room to fit a wrench hence the need for the 2 and 5 inch extension on the ratchet to reach the bolts and then the fact that you can not get to the screw on the reservoir to remove it first, so you have to take the bracket with the mast. cyl. to get it out which also makes re-installing it easier too. p.s. i removed the filler in your post so as to get to the point of what i was saying. |
