Default 929 1989 HBES Help!

I own a 929 1986 HBES 2.0 Ltr Turbo 2 door Mazda and I've seized the engine good and proper and most likely have corrosion and a whole load of issues inside the motor that is going to cost me a fortune.

I need some help from some Enthusiastic people who know their stuff!...

What type of engine can i drop into it thats not going to cost me a mint, i am not into cars that much but the mechanics told me to do a little of my own research and thats why im here.

I'm not sure how to look for motor comparability and what not please help!

Options for HB:
VC/MA 1.8/2.0 Carb - Very early motors
FE - 4cyl - 2.0 Carb/EFI/EFI (Carb) turbo - 8 Valve
FE - 4cyl - 2.0 Carb/EFI - 12 Valve
F8/FE - 4cyl - 1.8/2.0 EFI - 16 Valve
F2 - 4cyl (Turbo)- 2.2 EFI - 12 Valve
JF/JE - V6 - 2.0/3.0 (2.0 Turbo) - EFI - 18 Valve
JE- V6 - 3.0 - EFI - 24 Valve
12A - Rotary Turbo
13B - Rotary (Turbo)
302 (Ford) - V8 - 16 Valve Push Rod

take your pick

what would you like really and how fast you want to spend.... i mean go

if you want to replace and get it going just stick with the factory, by the year i think it would not be MA motor hence i am almost certain that it is FE 8-Valve Carb (could be early EFI)

if you want cheap FE Turbo is the way to go (easy to wire in) but they are getting hard to find.

choice 4 Cyl would be FE 16Valve (import motor) or 2.2 turbo (out of 626/mx6/teltar) would require turbo piping as the motor is FWD, but a non turbo was available in B2200 and E2200 as a RWD.

12A Rotor was available in japan as option (Cosmo), so relatively easy to fit, again everyone and everywhere have their own relative

13B goes the same

if yours is carby and you pick EFI you will need more work, the fuel tank will need surge tank, will need new fuel lines and management.... the first two are easy, HBs did come with EFI hence those parts can be sourced... with management go after market.

FE/F8/F6 and F2 shares the mounting points for bell patterns, engine mounts and oil pan. so a swap with one of those will be relatively painless.

FWD vs RWD.
On FWD engines the distributor and thermostat could/would interfere with the firewall. And the throttlebody is facing the firewall too.
