check engine light on

Have been looking for information regarding "check engine light", but have not found any. I have a 1994 MPV, 3.0 V6, runs pretty well with no real issues, but the check engine light came on, and I have replaced some of the things that appear to cause this, ie: new mass flow unit, new oxygen censer, new gas cap, plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor. so far nothing has changed. The shop tells me the 94's did not have the diagnostic port for them to find codes so they can only start changing part until the light goes out, of course after my pocket book is completely empty. Can anyone give me some advice as what my next course of action should be, short of blowing the **** thing up.
Thanks all
