We have had a musty van for some time now due to a waterleak in the rear hatch area. Initally was hard to find the cause, seemed to only leak when driving and raining, not parked and raining.

We usally drive with the 3rd row seat folded and when i put the seats up after an 800 mile trip (part through tropical storm frances) man did the van get soaked. I noticed wetness under passenger side speaker behind 3rd row seat. i looked under rear passenger wheel well and saw a 1.5 inch factory hole. looking through the hole, there is a clear view of the speaker grille. not only did the water ruin the pad underneath the carpet in the rear, it soaked the back of the 3rd row seat and water even seeped all the way infront of the 2nd row seats (wet carpet and pad)

A few questions, 1, is there supposed to be a rubber plug in the rear passenger wheel well? or 2 is this the spot where the rear AC draintube is supposed to be (maybe pulled back inside the wheel well and that is what is leaking)?

3. For the 2nd row seat area, are there any other possible leaky sites like drain plugs in the sliding door channels?

4. at 40000 miles (still under warranty), Anybody want to share a strategy about how to force the mazda dealer replace all of my carpet and padding?

On a separate issue, there is a noisy tick coming from engine (only at startup) and then stops after a minute or two... sounds like ticking or a leaf caught inside a vent
any thoughts on what this could be?

Thanks, Steve in SC
