I am a new Mazda owner. My wife and I just purchased a 2004 MPV with 48,000 miles on it two weeks ago. This weekend when headed home from a trip while on the interstate the transmission failed on us. I had cruise set and the car bucked, I canceled the cruise and pushed the accelerator and I got no response. The engine just free spun and the vehicle continued to slow down. I pulled over checked all my fluids and looked for obvious signs of failure and did not find any, so I started it back up because i wanted to at least try to get to an exit, but i could not get it to accelerate much over 20-30 mph. I have it at the local Mazda dealer now and they are doing the diagnostics. i was wondering if anyone had ever experienced similar problems with their MPV or another Mazda with the same transmission. I am just looking for some input other than what Mazda tells me, so that I can make sure they are actually fixing the whole problem. Luckily this vehicle has a few months and about 1500 miles left on the warranty, but I am afraid that if Mazda only replaces a small component and not the whole problem that I am then going to have the same problem in a another month or so and I will be out of warranty. Any opinions are welcomed.
Thanks,
Kevin
