Hi there!!

I have a '94 MX-3 (4 cyc) which has 160,000KMs. I've been noticing lately that there is quite a lot of pinging from my vehicle when accelerating. I tried adding an octane boost but the pinging is still there. Any suggestions?? Just a note, I have replaced my spark plugs and changed my spark plug wires too (NGK). Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Raphael

Maybe, adjust your timing(sounds like it is too advanced). You can do that with a timing light, and loosening bolts on distributor.

Those still had distributors learn something new every day. also double check some other maintenance items, make sure its not running hot, check coolant level and/or change if that hasnt been done recently. thermmostat may not be opening properly, air filter clean etc. timings prolly the culprit but it doesnt hurt to check while the hoods open

Correct you can turn the timming back till it stops pinging!! you can also try using using a higher octane gas...if you dont want to loose the little more low end pep!!
