Default fuel and spark but won't start

Hello all. I am a newbie to this board, and a newbie to the Mazda scene, but hardly a newbie to cars. Here's the deal. My girlfriend bought a 93 MX3 with the dohc V6. The info on the hood decal does not match the info in the legendary chilton manual, but as best I can tell it is a k8(?) It has 104K miles on it and has likely been rode hard. Two weeks after getting it, the timing belt broke. She took it to a 'mechanic' and he replaced the belt ($600). She drove it about 11 miles and it quit. Mechanic says "bummer". So now I have the car in my garage ( I am a 240Z guy). The car has crisp blue spark and it is getting fuel (plugs are wet and that "flooded" smell. But, not a single cylinder fires. Cams are rotating but perhaps not in the right time. So the question I have is: Could the crank sensor be damaged? Would there be spark with a bad sensor? With all my heart I don't want to pull the thing apart to check cam timing. Any suggestions at all for testing the sensor, verifying the cam timing, or any other likely spots. I've tried the search feature but like most other sites, if you don't know for sure what you are searching for, you get an overload of information that isn't relavent.

Thanks for your help, and if you need to get your Z up and going, it's a piece of cake!

Leonard

Make sure you're using the right grade gas, i know that sounds like a simple answer, and i'm sure your MX3 isn't having this problem but i've seen it before.
