I have read some threads out there and am confused. I have a 92 2600 and am underwhelmed with the performance of the engine. Mine is old now and looking to upgrade. I have a limited knowledge of engine swaps and am looking to get done easily. Does a V6 MPV engine bolt up? Any other engines anyone would recomend? I don't need to smoke the tires every time I hit the gas. Just want to be able to pass other cars and not be passed all the time.

as to my knowledge, no other engine will bolt up to the transmission. If you want to put in a gm or ford v8, you would need to modify all the subsequent systems: engine mounts, transmission, driveline, electrical, and so forth. I am currently working on a project at school to increase the power and fuel economy of the G6 engine. if successful, i will post instructions on how to do it. i will check on the mpv v6 engine, but i think they used a different transmission.

The RX7 tranmission used in the B2600i is the same one used later in the Ranger. This means that with the correct bellhousing you can use several Ford engines. You cannot however use the V8s, they use a different trans altogether. My advise however is to swap the tranny to match your engine anyway.
If you engine is still good, you can build a Megasquirt controller, and then that opens the doors to not only a large variety of engine swaps, but a whole new world of mods. V8 swaps have a lot of fitment problems, but forced induction holds the promise of great fuel economy and tons of extra power. And it will fit the engine compartment quite well. The main catch is the engine you use has to either already be setup for forced induction, or you have to replace the internal components with ones that can take the added output. I would rather mod the existing engine. |
