Doing a blown head gasket repair on a 1984 B2000. Disassembled without removing water pump or timing chain cover. Trying to assemble, but cam won't go into timing chain sprocket without damaging front cam bearing. Do I have to remove the water pump and timing chain cover to loosen the chain tension, or is there a work around? Thanks for any help.

Reply, yes, you need to remove anything that is in the way. For a job like yours, even though we are more than willing to give you recommendations and advise, you really should have a service manual. They can be had at most any auto parts store.
