I did buy the replacement MAF at RockAuto.
It says it's for a Ford but nothing on it about Motorcraft. Last time I went to the dealer I was given the codes above and replaced a lot of parts for what seems like no reason. I sure feels like an air leak - but visually everything looks fine. tm |

The pinging issue remains as does the engine light coming on.
The newest issue... my gas mileage is cut to half. Use premium gas 92-94 octane to cut down on the pinging. symptoms: On load there is no power Going up a hill I can't drop to passing gear the engine shutters in reverse I was told this sounds like it's flooding all the time. Looking at ideas like: Engine temperature control sensor or Catalytic converter I am already part swapping - I don't enjoy it. thoughts? Any ideas why mileage drops so drastically? |

Because your MAF is faulty. And I'm still assuming that the code is 181 and 184, which to me doesn't make sense. Code 181 means the system is lean, which would definitely cause pinging. Code 184 means the MAF voltage is higher or lower than expected. These two codes in combination is pretty conclusive, you need a new MAF. Just because the company you bought it from says its for a Ford, doesn't mean its the right one, or that its quality is any good.
This is the one you need. MOTORCRAFT Part # AFLS102RM You can get it for just over $100 at RockAuto Auto Parts. The other brands are just junk. As I said, I've been through this before on one of my on vehicles. There are some parts where it is just fine to use aftermarket parts, but the fuel management is not one of them. |
