OK - here's one of the wierdest starting problems I have EVER encountered in my life. And I'm a pretty old guy!
Truck sometimes starts fine. Other times, it tries to turn over - but seems like it's bogged down or something is preventing it from turning. It wants to turn over, and tries to. But just can't seem to do it. It will do one spin, PAUSE, then maybe another spin, and just sit there. This happens when it's hot, cold - doesn't matter. When the problem presents itself, sometimes it will do the one spin a few times, then just completely jump to life & start like there is no problem whatsoever. Truck is all manual. New Battery, cable, & starter. Removed the AC Belt just in case the compressor was lugging the engine down (it wasn't). Now only has one belt - alternator. But I can NOT for the life of me figure out what is causing this problem. I'm guessing some sensor or something is causing it. But I'm at a loss. Any and ALL help, info, opinions will be appreciated! |

When it does this, try removing the vacuum advance line and plugging it. It sounds like it may be kicking back (over advanced). Ounce it starts, if it does, put the line back on. If this is the case check the distributor timing.

I have exact same situation. It is the column switch. the one that is attached to your light lever. I have to hold the key in the start position while I move the turn/light/brights lever around and up and down 'till it starts. sometimes I don't have to do anything and the battery seems like it's brand new. Other times, it acts as if there is no battery installed at all...until I jiggle and jive the arm. I hope this helps.
