B3000 starter problems

I tried to start my '98 B3000 today and it kicked over a couple times then quit. Turning the ignition after that did nothing. The lights come on inside the cab and the idiot lights in the dash but it won't turn over. I checked all the fuses, inside and under the hood and all is good there. When it quit turning over there was a definite smell of burnt electrical inside the cab. When I turn the key on and push the clutch in I can hear the clutch switch working so that seems ok. Any ideas?
