sory to bring this one back but, plain and simple, what percent of the millenia is ford? i would assume a very small percent if any? if the engines were mazda made and stuck in fords, that would mean 0% is ford? i was at the dealer one day and i started talking to one of the mechanics about general ****, and he said the millenia was all japanese, but that the 6 has alot of ford in it, and the 3 is mostly japanese. my boss has a tribute and on the back of his keyless entry it flat out says FORD MOTOR CO., but the original question is, is the millenia really ford free?

Pretty much nothing. The Millenia shared its Mazda-designed automatic transmission with the 626/MX-6/Probe, but that's about it. The KL and KJ engines are all-Mazda, the body's all Mazda, the chassis (based partly on the 929's design) is all-Mazda. So I'd venture to say 99.75 percent or so, give or take.

The 3 is another story, though. While the platform is very much a Mazda design underneath, it was created to Ford's "C1" specifications and is used under the European Focus and the Volvo S40/V50 series as well. Engines, though, are still all-Mazda (the acclaimed new MZR series).

The 6 is, again, all-Mazda underneath, and still carries an MZR 2.3 four-cylinder, but the 3.0 V6 is a modified version of Ford's Duratec. Actually, the Mazda version is closer to Jaguar's "AJ" variant of the same engine, using variable valve timing technology that Ford and Mercury haven't tried yet. And the 6 platform will soon be used under no less than four or five more Ford-empire vehicles over the next few years.

Tributes are actually based on the old "GF" 626 platform, but using the Mazda 2.3 MZR four-cylinder and Ford Duratec (non-variable) V6 engines. Before 2005, the standard 2.0 four was still built by Mazda as the YF, a reworked version of the FS-DE used in numerous 626/MX-6/Probe models over the years.

This chassis situation is also true for the MPV, which uses the same variable-timed Duratec 3.0 V6 as the 6. Reportedly, the next MPV will be shared almost entirely with a Ford design, so buy the current one now if you like it.

And finally, the Mazda B-series is totally and completely a Ford design - save for the base B2300's engine, which is none other than the 2.3 MZR by Mazda (and is also used in the Ranger).

Miatas and RX-8s, of course, are 100 percent Mazda-created. No question there.

i thought the 2.5 tranny was a ford tranny and the S was mazda....

i always thought the milly could be a distant cousin to the ford taurus... (94-95's)

I can def see ford's finger in the mazda pot but the styling and grace is all mazda...

god **** it people, the millenia S has nothing at all in common with ford, it was unveiled at the autoshow before ford even took a controlling interested, NOT OWNERSHIP MIND YOU. If you go to ford they will even brag about all the companies they know own, but they will never say mazda.

No one says aston martins are **** and there FULLY owned for ford
