Thumbs up

If the navigation systems uses a DVD Reader placed in the glove box, why not just make it a DVD Player? I see MazdaUsa site says its 7". I suppose that is length, don't know how tall it is, but who cares, the front passenger may have been able to enjoy a movie while going on a trip.

Just an idea, don't really know anything about these systems, nor do I how big it is.

It will probably be just a matter of time before a company has a kit to do a DVD player upgrade or something to it.

Does anyone know if the space on the dash is available regardless if you have the NAV option or not? The idea being that you could save money on the option to get a DVD/NAV in the aftermarket stores.

Seems like anytime there is a screen on a car, they should be able to make it accessible easily to multimedia(dvd, playstation, etc...)

well I wasnt going as far to say the PS2. But if its already a "DVD Reader", why can't it play movies.

But like I said, I don't really know anything about these systems. Could you shed some light bryanj ? Or anyone with that knowledge?

The DVD NAV device is only designed for GPS navigation service. You may install an aftermarket DVD player and hack your way into the audio/video of the LCD screen. If you don't buy the OEM NAV, you don't get the indash pop-up screen. I recommend getting the NAV if you want mobile media and not go through the hassle of getting your dash cut up later.

Yah no doubt. I bet you could find a way to wire in a DVD player, and anything else that needs audio/video. It may take another box to do the multi-in/single-out that would be required if you wanted to run multiple things to the screen but I bet it could be done... just need the wiring diagrams.

its law that you can not have a movie/TV playing screen within site of the driver while the vehicle is in motion.... but yes i agree that if a nav system is DVD based, why not allow it to play movies while the vehicle is parked. The Cadillac XLR has this ability...

Exactly. Can you say "liabilities"? People in America just love to sue. It's become part of our culture. Which is why we will never see things like automated parallel parking (as found on the new Prius in Japan), etc. here in NA.

Guys, I found this linked on the Rx-8 forum. It should be the same on the 3. With the following tuner, you can have several other uses when it comes to the Navi screen.
