Remote keyless entry

Is anyone having problems with their remote keyless entry? Have you heard of anyother M3 owners having problems (e.g., defected chip) with it? Someone told me that there is a general defect in the remote keyless entry, at least in Canada, and that there is a back order of chips until May to replace them. I found this hard to believe. Any thoughts?
