Hey Everyone,

Just picked up my 3 last week and asked the dealer what the break in period was. He told me 3000 km!! Holy! The book says 1000km. What does everyone else think?

It's 1000 miles (not sure the conversion). The manual isn't going to lie to you, so follow that method because then you are still guaranteed any warranty repairs.

For the first 1000km I didn't take it past 5000rpm, and avoided cruising at a constant speed. Oil change at 3000km, and I don't accelerate hard till the car is warmed up. Next fall I'll switch it over to synthetic oil. I don't believe break in periods are as much of an issue as they used to be.

Well, I did the "don't go past 3500 RPM til after 1000km thing", and I just hit about 1100km. So I'm looking forward to running it hard soon. Thanks guys!

I've always lived by the "harder you drive'm the better they run" rule! I've raced Formula Fords, Modified Showroom Stock Cars and Dirt Bikes for years. Never had a problem with driving a car/bike hard from the beginning. Constant speed is the worst thing for it! Always let them warm up, but then don't be afraid to put you're foot into it!

Have a look at this article!

Cheers.
