What's up everyone,

About four days ago I get outta my car after driving 20 mins. and I smell a burning plastic smell (like I caught a plastic bag on one of the exhaust pipes, and it was melting, kinda smell). So I look underneath the car, and no bag! I open the hood, and it's coming from the the engine. So I take the car in the next day, and they said that it was some kind of coating on the engine burning off, and that there was nothing wrong. Anything like this happen to anyone else??

fff

It's happened to me with other cars. The Mazda3S I have had a burning smell near the muffler that only lasted a few days.

The dealer is correct... there is a coating/protectant of some kind applied to the underbody and engine area to prevent rusting from the trip over from Japan because of the salt water oceans. When my friend was looking at an Elantra GT a couple of years ago, the dealer said the same thing.

Don't worry about it, aside from it being a bit annoying/ foul smelling. It will wear off fairly quickly

Ditto that, I drove my RX-8 and it had the same smell for a thousand miles or so.

I sometimes get that smell, but I can't tell if it's something im driving past (I.E. a skunk, or garbage or something rotten ) or if its the car, either way, it'll only smell for a couple of sec.'s

it is normal for all new cars to smell weird in different places, it is just the seals setting and the coatings and such. it they last more than several hundred km then you might have problems but otherwise its normal
