Well there must be something wrong with my car then because it made it to 130 fine. Almost at redline but it made it.
No problem. Just take a pic and post it.

Do note if you have different tire sizes then stock, you'll get different speedo readings.

I'm pretty sure the 3 is identical to the 6's gov, which is 128 in 4th gear in the MTX's, or 120ish in 5th.

Honestly though, if your going 120, and trying to look at your speedo, or take a photo, your a f$#king dumbass.

Might as well just go ahead and send in your application for a darwin award now, and save everyone else the time.

yah, i doubt my 107 would beat most cars. And the rpms dont cut off, they just dont increase once i hit 107 and its not even redlining at that point so i dunno.

and my car came with toyo tires 16in so i dont that was the reason for the limiter. oh well, who drives 100+ on a regular basis anyways.

You have the Toyo Proxes A05 tires - I do also. They are only "H" rated and subject to a speed limiter in North America.

Only cars equiped with "Z" rated tires at the factory may have "no speed limiter" IF the manufacturer choses not to have one. Note the operative word "IF". W rated tires are rated to a maximum of 166 mph and Y are rated to a maximum of 184 mph.

H rated tires (the ones Mazda appears to have chosen to install on the 3) are only rated to a maximum of 128 mph. Mazda has chosen to play it safe, and set the speed limiter in the PCM to 118.

Go here to this link to see the maximum speed permited for various tires ratings.

The speed limiter will still "kick in" once your INDICATED speed hits 118 mph.

If you install larger tires, yes - your ACTUAL speed will be higher (and with smaller tires your ACTUAL speed will be lower) than the speed indicated on your speedo.

But the relationship to your rpms and mph will remain the same and once the PCM detects the "118 mph" reading from the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) from the tranny, you will be shut down.

Personally, I prefer to have my speedo reading accurately. Driving at 60 mph (while the speedo only shows 50) sucks. Besides, the larger tires may have fitment issues and will hurt acceleration.

As for the "picture", I would recommend a passenger in the backseat take the pic.

ONE week after I got my car, I came up behind an RCMP cruiser doing 134 on HWY 2 going to CGY. I'm going to fight it this fall though...argue that I was unfamiliar with my car...I took a photo of the odometer, 854 km's...that was April 10th...now I have 10,098 km's on it...no more tkt's though!
