You can see the cutout sensor on your speedometer when you approach it. A blue light will shine on it.
When you hit the RPM limit you will hear the engine roar and simply not get any more power out of whatever gear you're in. This is a non-violent experience. It is harmful to the engine to rev like that and will cause instant overheat. Mazda warns not to do this to a new engine within the first 600 miles and also that it can void warranty.
The speed-limiter is a dramatic cut in power that will really get your attention. The car will cut out the throttle until you release it and slow down below the limiter. The sudden deceleration feels like hitting the brakes at your top speed for a half-second.
