Sorry for backing up my own post, but I haven't had a reply to it and I figured that SOMEBODY here has some insight on this one....so....what does a clutch that has started to slip feel like?

Our 2004 Mazda 3 GT Sport has only 5000 miles. We thought the squeak from the clutch peddle would have been gone by now. The noise is actually coming from the cylinder rod as it moves in and out of the gasket. I tried spraying automotive silicone grease on the rod, but no luck. The dealership did the same thing when my wife took it in for an oil change (and to fix the frong passenger side wiper blade... not working well). IT STILL SQUEAKS!!! I might try some dry graphite powder next.

There are no Technical Service Bulletins on the NHTSA web site about this problem, so I'm wondering if I'm on the only one with the noise. Anyone else have this problem? Has anyone fixed it?

Thanks -GotMass

You're not the only one, my 3 had the squeaky clutch pedal too. It was solved by my dealer replacing the complete clutch pedal / master cylinder assembly. It has been great ever since the replacement.

Mine started to squeak after about 6 months. The dealer lubed the assembly and the squeak returned after 3 days. It only squeaks in warm weather. Was your clutch pedal/master cylinder assembly replaced under warranty?

I have a '05 with 60k miles and the clutch squeaks terribly. I tried greasing it with White Lithium Grease. It helped a little bit but there is still a loud squeaking noise. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know.

It makes the rpms sway if slipping, test like this: drive around 50 mph in 4th, apply full throttle and quickly step on the clutch pedal and remove the foot sideways before overreving. The rpms should settle on same rpm as speed equals immediately. But expect said shiver, I have the same in my 04 Mazda 6 if being harsh with the clutch. I believe it comes from the entire drivetrain shaking due to soft mounts. I also experience front wheel stepping if spinning a wheel on gravel or snow.

Bear in mind these new Mazdas are fragile instruments compared to earlier generations. Mazda went zoom zoom but oops, what about the build quality? I am almost embarrased about my 6. Hopefully it will stay decent a while after the recent $15k rust repair.

Regarding the topic; print it out, show your dealer the part about clutch cylinder replacement under warranty and tell them you want a new one too

Edit: I didn't notice it was a bumped thread.

First time I hear about that problem. I have had my mzda 3/o6 with three pedals since new and just came back home (Houston, TX) after driving to Toronto and from there to Northern California with no problems at all, just fun all the time for more than 7,000 miles! And I have photos of the speedometer doing ... should I tell it here? well just imagine that I'm grateful with no tickets. Sorry GotMass you got one of the black sheeps in every herd.

Hello all,

After googling Mazda 3 clutch problems I came across this thread and had to register and hop on this thread.

I have a 2007 Mazda 3 MT. I had the passenger motor mount replaced at 30k miles. I first experienced clutch problems JUST after 36k miles: the pedal would become EXTREMELY soft at the engagement point, which went away after a while. Then the WHOLE pedal travel was softer than normal, which went away for a while. I've had a squeaky clutch for about as long as I remember though. Now at about 41,5xx miles, it seems like my clutch is going since it doesn't seem to grab as well in 1st and the engagement point is a bit higher (not slipping in high gears though). And sometimes, I get a really bad chatter when trying to take off in 1st just as the gear is engaging, like I'm not applying enough gas. I'm not hard on the clutch at all but I do a fair bit of city driving.

@ TedCorp and anyone else with any advice, I know it's been practically 5 years since your post but were you able to solve your problem?

Also, do our soft motor mounts affect clutch wear at all? Cause like a few members on this thread, it seems like their clutch is wearing pretty early just like mine.

Anyways if anyone has any information please let me know, I've tried a few boards with no luck and as you all know, replacing a clutch, especially this soon, is not cheap.

Thanks in advance
